Salesforce Acquires Braze in $5.66 Billion Deal: What Happens Next?

Today (20th October 2026) Salesforce announced a definitive agreement to acquire Braze, the customer engagement platform behind real-time push, in-app, email, SMS and WhatsApp journeys.. It’s one of the biggest moves in the customer engagement space this year, and if you run CRM or lifecycle marketing, you’ll want to know what it does (and doesn’t) change for you.

Here’s what’s been confirmed, what hasn’t, and what we’d do in your position.

The Deal at a Glance

Acquirer Salesforce
Target Braze (NASDAQ: BRZE)
Value Approximately $5.66 billion enterprise value
Price $47.50 in cash per Braze Class A share
Expected close Salesforce fiscal year 2028 (their fiscal year runs February to January, so between February 2027 and January 2028)
Conditions Braze shareholder approval and regulatory approvals
Braze customers Approximately 2,770

Importantly, this is an agreement to acquire, not a completed deal. Nothing changes for Braze customers today.

Why Salesforce Wants Braze

Salesforce’s announcement positions Braze as the real-time, high-volume B2C engagement layer it wants alongside Marketing Cloud, CRM, Data 360 and Agentforce. In their words, Braze’s event-streaming architecture and AI decisioning would help brands act on customer behaviour as it happens, particularly across mobile and app channels.

Marketing Cloud has long been strongest in structured, campaign-led marketing, while Braze is known for mobile-first, behaviour-triggered engagement. Buying Braze is a way of closing that gap rather than building it from scratch. That’s our interpretation, not something Salesforce has said in those words.

If You’re a Braze Customer

The messaging from both companies is reassuring: Braze’s CEO has said they’ll “continue building as Braze” and investing in its community of customers and partners. That’s a statement of intent, and a deal of this size won’t close for months, so here’s what we’d do now:

  • Don’t panic, and don’t pause: Nothing about your current setup, roadmap or support changes today.
  • Check your contract: Look at renewal dates, and ask your legal team whether it contains change-of-control or assignment clauses.
  • Document your build: Journeys, Canvases, segments, event schemas and integrations should all be written down somewhere that doesn’t live in one person’s head. This is good practice regardless of who owns the platform.
  • Keep your logic portable: The best-performing campaigns aren’t tied to a vendor. For example, in a milestone push programme we built in Braze for a fintech client, the 100th-transaction push achieved a 26.78% app-session conversion rate. That result came from the strategy: the trigger, the timing, the control group and the conversion tracking. It would transfer to any capable platform.
  • Watch the roadmap announcements: especially anything on pricing, packaging and integration with Marketing Cloud.

If You’re a Salesforce Marketing Cloud Customer

Salesforce says Braze is expected to strengthen Marketing Cloud’s cross-channel personalisation after the deal closes. Practically, that’s a long-term direction rather than something you can plan around yet. There’s no confirmed product roadmap, timeline or migration path, so we’d avoid making platform decisions based on assumed future integration.

If You’re Choosing a CRM or Engagement Platform Right Now

An acquisition shouldn’t automatically take Braze, or any platform, off your shortlist. It should add a few questions to your evaluation:

  1. How well does the platform fit your channels and use cases today?
  2. What’s the vendor’s stated commitment to the product post-acquisition, and is it in writing?
  3. How portable are your data, journeys and integrations if you ever need to move?
  4. Do you have independent advice, rather than only advice from a vendor with something to sell?

What We Don’t Know Yet

  • How Braze will be priced and packaged under Salesforce
  • Whether, and how quickly, Braze and Marketing Cloud will be integrated
  • What happens to the roadmap, support model and partner ecosystem
  • Whether regulators will raise concerns, and how long approvals will take

We’ll update this post as more is confirmed.

Our Take

Platforms get bought, merged, renamed and re-packaged. The thing that holds its value through all of it is a clear lifecycle strategy, clean data and well-documented journeys. That’s why we work as an insourced CRM agency across platforms rather than around a single vendor: our job is to make your CRM work harder, whoever owns the software.

Not Sure What This Means for Your Stack?

If you’re on Braze, Marketing Cloud or weighing up a platform decision, we can give you an independent view, with no platform agenda. Book a discovery call or get in touch and we’ll talk through what matters for your setup.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is Salesforce buying Braze?

Salesforce has signed a definitive agreement to acquire Braze for approximately $5.66 billion in enterprise value. The deal is subject to Braze shareholder approval and regulatory approvals, and is expected to close in Salesforce’s fiscal year 2028.

Will Braze still exist as a separate product?

Braze’s CEO has said the company will continue building as Braze after the deal. Salesforce has also said Braze is expected to complement Marketing Cloud, so the long-term shape of the product remains to be seen.

Does the acquisition affect current Braze customers?

Not today. The deal hasn’t closed, and both companies have said they intend to keep investing in Braze customers and partners. Customers should review their contracts and document their setups, as good practice.

Should I move away from Braze?

There’s no reason to make a move based on the announcement alone. Review your contract, watch for roadmap and pricing news, and make sure your journeys and data are portable. If you’re unsure, an independent CRM audit can help you decide.
