WeDoCoding with SheCodes

We’re big fans of the SheCodes workshops here at WeDoCRM. They’re perfectly set up to work around your busy lifestyle, you get actual hands-on experience with coding, and you earn a verified certificate once you’ve completed your course.

I recently graduated from the SheCodes Basics course and one of our technical CRM Specialists, Jordana, is a SheCodes Pro alumni. We were both blown away by the quality of the experience and the tools we’ve come away with.

Here are some of the things you learn on the SheCodes workshops, and how it could help you in a CRM specialist role at WeDoCRM

1. Product Development

At SheCodes you’ll learn how the Internet works, about front-end development (HTML, CSS, JavaScript), and basic coding practices.

This is basic but fundamental knowledge of how everything we visibly see online actually works. HTML, CSS and Javascript are the cornerstone of design and functionality. So understanding how they work will help you answer questions, such as, how is this text centred? How do we give a button corners? How does a banner sit at the top of a webpage? And even, how does pressing a submit form button send and save data?

We use this daily at WeDoCRM, such as designing and building email templates by using HTML and CSS to create their look and feel.

2. Product Design

At SheCodes you’ll learn the basics of User-Experience (UX) and User Interface (UI) design so you can convert your sketches into actual pixels.

Good practice in UX and UI is about taking all the things from above in product development (in our case, an email template or a webpage) to create something the user wants to interact with. Again, this is something we do on a daily basis at WeDoCRM.

3. Product Management

At SheCodes you’ll learn how to validate an idea, about the tools to manage a project, and how to have conversations with developers.

For us, this process would start with market research to inform a brief for the design team. Once they’ve created mockups and all feedback has been collated, we choose a design to progress with. We’d then liaise with the development team to get a scope of the project and all the steps involved. From there we’d have a good idea as to what should happen in each iteration, right up to delivery date.

We’re involved at various different levels with this at WeDoCRM. Our clients’ design teams often give us mockups to build out, or sometimes simply give us assets to use in a template of our own design. For other clients, we’re involved in the end-to-end process with data engineers and developers, especially when we’re helping to migrate to a new CRM system or marketing software.

The SheCodes mission (and why we support it)

Women in the technology sector currently hold around 25% of coding jobs. They also earn about 30% less money than men in the same role. SheCodes aims to bridge the gender gap in the tech programming industry by providing women with the necessary knowledge for today’s increasingly tech-forward job market.

Their workshops offer a solid introduction to product development, product design and product management, whether you’re starting on your journey as a professional developer, or are looking to sharpen your skills.

At WeDoCRM, we’re proud that women make up over 50% of our team. And we want to continue to support women in technology by providing an inclusive environment that enriches their careers. That’s why we’re committed to providing a budget and resources for learning and development for everyone at WeDoCRM to boost their career progression. The courses offered by SheCodes will always be one of our top recommendations for our team.
